Reengineered TranzX PST debuts at Taipei Cycle Show

(lifePR) (Taipei, )
The JD Group, manufacturer of mobility products and bike components, unveiled today at a press conference held at the Taipei Cycle Show the next-generation of its successful TranzX Power Support Technology pedal-activated drive system for electric bicycles.

Featuring a sleek new display screen with dynamic diagnostic technology, quicker response, better performance motor, three different lithium batteries and a new lightweight rear rack carrier, TranzX PST once again raises the performance bar for electric bicycles. The reengineered drive system will be available to manufacturers starting this fall.

“The current TranzX PST has been a great success for JD with its lightweight electric technology, advanced torque measuring method that delivers intuitive acceleration and the system’s unparalleled versatility to manufacturers," said Gino Tsai, president of the JD Group. "The all-new TranzX PST will reconfirm the system’s cutting edge technology and accelerate the acceptance of this new era in bicycles.”

- Display Screen features innovative dynamic diagnostic technology

A redesigned display screen appears more upscale thanks to a completely new outer shell. Built into this new casing is innovation that significantly extends system functionality and introduces new intelligent technology that aims to reduce warranty claims to manufacturers.

Larger digits make for easier reading of real-time performance data (current speed, distance traveled and battery level). The buttons have been both restyled and rearranged to allow for easier access while riding. An easy-shift play button allows for effortless switching between cruising and climbing power support modes.

A major new development is the intelligent monitoring system that alerts the rider when the TranzX PST components need service. The TranzX PST Dynamic Diagnostic system allows dealers to quickly detect and solve most service problems by identifying the actual system failure through the use of specific error codes. The system is designed to allow the dealer’s regular service personal and technicians to fix most problems without requiring specific product training. In most cases the dealer will be able to return the e-bike to their customers on the same day making the rider happy and allowing OEM’s to reduce their warranty, shipping and handling costs.

With this new technology of specific analysis of repair requirements, TranzX PST Dynamic Diagnostic will minimize the overall demand for after-sales service thereby reducing an important cost factor area for the manufacturers.

- Li-ion power system integrated in stylish rear rack carrier

The new rear rack carrier is elegantly styled and perfectly integrates the controller and battery. Both of these components have been revised to be seamlessly integrated with one another. The battery snaps neatly into the controller forming a complete unit that reduces the wiring needed for the system. The three components together weigh 30% less than the original rear rack carrier unit.

The next-generation TranzX PST will be available with four different batteries giving manufacturers the flexibility to choose a system based on the riding preferences in their own markets. The 36V 10AH Lithium-ion battery delivers an extend range of up to 75 km under normal road conditions while a 36V 7AH Lithium-ion battery sacrifices a little of that range capacity (maximum range 50 km) in exchange for less weight. The new carrier together with a 36V 7AH Lithium-ion battery and controller weigh less than 4.5 kg. Also available are a Lithium-ion 24V 10AH (range of 50 km) as well as a Ni-MH 24V 9AH (range 45 km).

- Even better response and a considerably quieter motor

New software calibrated specifically for the TranzX PST application improves both performance and the system’s power management system. The drive system is powered by a 250 watt brushless electric hub motor which is now quicker responding, better performing and noticeably quieter.

The system combines state-of-the-art technologies featuring the patented Torque Measuring Method (TMM4) and a series of smart sensors that monitor the cyclist’s ride and boost power as necessary. On the road the rider will immediately appreciate the uncannily fluid rate of acceleration and unique riding experience. The fun-to-drive nature of this performance is also matched by higher torque at start with a seamless, instant power delivery and an overall smoother ride.

- Made for the OEM market

With the original equipment manufacturer in mind, TranzX PST is even easier to assemble and designed to deliver maximum configurability to bicycle manufacturers.

The system supports both front and rear hub-motor, is suitable for derailleur and internal shifting systems, adapts to any type of braking system and can be used with differ¬ent types of chain cases. A plug and play system with fewer and uncomplicated wiring connections makes it even simpler to assemble.

TranzX PST lets manufacturers increase revenue by reaching more users, optimizing their solutions to their cyclists’ experience requirements and in¬creasing reach into their customer base.

JD is committed to working closely with OEM partners to develop and deliver superior products designed specifically for the OEM channel.

- New Technical Service Center in Europe

Featuring tremendous improvements to riding performance, weight and efficiency - and boasting components that have an inconspicuous, stylish and sophisticated appearance – TranzX PST marks the significant progress that JD continues to make in advancing the real-world performance and appeal of electric-powered bicycles.

The Taiwanese manufacturer’s upgrading of TranzX PST goes beyond just new technology improvements. In January the JD Group announced the opening of a Technical Service Center in Bad Nauheim (near Frankfurt), Germany to serve customers in Europe by providing easier access to sales, technical service, training, quality assurance, and customer service.

The new Technical Service Center strengthens the already-strong JD global support network and confirms the company’s commitment to making TranzX Power Support Technology one of the leading technologies in the electric bicycle market.

The new system is showcased at the 21st Taipei International Cycle Show, March 13 – 16, 2008.
