Founded in 1992, Dominov Konsumativ is taking over from the previous agency Arimpex Ltd. in Sofia, with whom KBA has worked together since 1996. For the meantime, however, Arimpex will continue to accompany a number of web press projects through to conclusion even beyond this switch. Given the considerable space and personnel resources which Dominov holds at its disposal, and in the context of the recent EU expansion, KBA expects the new arrangement to trigger an intensification of customer relationships in sales and after-sales service, as a basis for further expansion of its market position in this upwardly striving region.
Managed by graduate engineer Simeon Dominov, the company also acquired the agency for bookbinding machinery manufacturers Horizon last year. The new KBA agency for Bulgaria can look back over 16 successful years of trading with consumables and used presses, and has also built up a good reputation as a service company for the printing industry over the past 10 years. Alongside countless finishing lines, Dominov has sold approx. 1,500 used sheetfed and web presses from practically all the well-known manufacturers since 1992. The majority of these were collected from their previous owners abroad, overhauled and then re-installed in Bulgaria. The access to modern sheetfed and web presses from KBA now enables Simeon Dominov and his team to target even more ambitious goals.
With 25 qualified staff, more than half of whom possess extensive experience in technical service, the company is ideally prepared for the coming challenges. Dominov maintains a major spare parts store in Plovdiv, together with newly built workshop and office space and a spacious showroom. As most new presses in Bulgaria are financed through leasing, established contacts to the most important leasing companies are equally valuable assets.
Sheetfed offset presses from Radebeul, in particular, are well known in Bulgaria and have been in widespread use there for many years. With their robust design and outstanding production flexibility, the KBA Rapidas enjoy a high reputation in the Bulgarian print industry. The demand for newspaper and commercial web presses is naturally still limited in such a small market, but can rightly be expected to grow now that the country has joined the European Union. Simeon Dominov and his team will certainly be sparing no effort to ensure that KBA, as one of the world's leading manufacturers, is also represented accordingly in Bulgaria's web printing centres.
