The pointzero3 is made from a new technical fabric produced by Yamamoto, and is the fi rst and only suit using this new technology approved for all FINA-aligned competitive swimming events including triathlon, pool and open water swimming.
Tim Moxey, blueseventy’s CEO says, "as FINA is recognized by the International Olympic Committee this denotes the pointzero3’s availability for use in the 2008 Beijing Olympics and beyond. It also allows pure swimmers to have access to these new suits for competitions and that’s a huge deal."
"The pointzero3 has an incredibly low surface friction co-effi cient which creates less drag than traditional race uniforms and other currently established swim skins," he says.
"During the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship, there was an amazing 3 times as many participants wearing the pointzero3 compared with all other brands combined".
Prior to the 2007 Ford Ironman World Championship, there were several pre-race rumblings of the legality of the use of swim skins.
"Given how fast the pointzero3 is I can understand questions of buoyancy being raised but the FINA approval puts our suit’s legality beyond doubt" Tim Moxey says.
Steve Nicholls, who leads the product development team at blueseventy says the pointzero3 proved itself in 2006 and 2007 and was the product of extensive design and testing with the best swimmers in the sport.
"Just stitching together a suit made from the same Yamamoto material we use, may not mean another brand’s suit is FINA compliant," he says, "or that it has the same technical enhancements of the pointzero3".
As one of the industry leaders for over 15 years, blueseventy have continued to demonstrate their passion for swimming via their innovational products. blueseventy are excited what the FINA approval means for future product development.
"This opens up a whole new world for us and challenges the technical dominance of the big players like TYR and Speedo."
Nicholls acknowledges. "We are a small company that lives and breathes swimming. We are pretty excited about what this approval means and are looking forward to continuing to develop some fantastic innovative swimming-specifi c products in the future".
