On June 19th, the MG Rallye finally reached Abingdon in Oxfordshire and was warmly welcome by John Day, President of the MG Car Club. After a visit to the MG plant in Longbridge the MG Rallye drivers reached Silverstone on June 21st in time for the 90th anniversary of MG and to great applause from MG enthusiasts from all across the world. The visit to Silverstone was crowned with a lap of honor on the legendary Silverstone Circuit on Sunday, the final day of MG90. After an individual stay in England and visits to various MG Clubs across the country the cars will be shipped back to China from the UK.
The Rallye was organized by China Tours Hamburg, the leading specialist for car travel between China and Europe in recent years. Plans for the 2015 Abingdon-Shanghai Rallye are now running at full speed and has been greeted with massive interest from MG lovers across Europe, not least because of the great publicity this year's Rallye arrival received in England.
About the history of the Rallye:
China Tours Hamburg is German's leading specialist for travel to China. The New Silk Road Rallye, one of China Tours' many specialized tours to China began with the now legendary 2006 Hamburg to Shanghai Rallye. More Rallies followed (2007 Düsseldorf - Shanghai, 2009 Shanghai - Hamburg, Bremen 2010 - Shanghai and 2012 Hamburg - Shanghai) and were a great success from the start, eventually becoming available to Chinese guests as well. Another Rallye from Shanghai is currently on the way to the German city of Hamburg and the Berlin-Beijing Rallye will leave in August 2014. This year's Rallye to Abingdon was the first Rallye from China to the UK operated by China Tours Hamburg.
