Frank Krüger and his family found a home on Mallorca. With the auction of two of his original paintings, Krüger would like to support his new home during this time. The paintings feature the popular bull motif in oil on brushed aluminium. With this action, he can provide help where the suffering is greatest. In cooperation with the municipality of Capdepera (Cala Ratjada), the 140 x 110 cm paintings with an original price of €5,900, will be sold to the highest bidder. The proceeds will be deposited directly into a community account and used for the specified purpose.
"The other day we happened to see food being distributed to the needy here in Cala Ratjada and were shocked at how many families were waiting there,” said the artist Frank Krüger and his wife Laura to explain the project. "What especially tears our hearts apart is that for many children there will be no Christmas this year because there is simply no money for gifts." The couple, who now run three art galleries on Mallorca and one in Berlin, don't want to look away. Rather, they see it as their responsibility to help.
The corona crisis has affected virtually all towns and, of course, many industries as well. Particularly dramatic developments are now emerging on what is the Germans’ favourite island. Mallorca lives almost entirely from tourism. In 2020, the island was only open for tourists to a limited extent and for a few months. Many hotels did not open at all and the catering trade was seriously impacted throughout the island. As a result, unemployment has also increased dramatically. The short season was not enough to build up economic reserves and countless families have been left with nothing and are dependent on food distribution by the social services. In view of the approaching winter, the situation will get even worse.
