In RIALTO two to five players aged ten years and up take on the role of Venetian noblemen who want to gain power and influence to finally become the grey eminence of Venice. But getting there won’t be easy… To obtain the majority in the six districts, you have to build bridges as well as constructing buildings and sending out your councilmen.
RIALTO uses an unusual mechanism to distribute cards. The players do not only draw single cards but they take whole card rows at a time. One after another, they may now play cards of different types to carry out actions. Like in the districts, majorities are crucial: The player who discards the most cards either gets a bonus or even the opportunity to perform a special action – most importantly building bridges.
This mechanism and the unique artwork make RIALTO an extraordinary game. Author Stefan Feld is currently one of the most successful game designers in the business. Five of his games were recommended by the Jury Spiel des Jahres; his game Strasbourg released in 2011 by Pegasus Spiele was even nominated for “Kennerspiel des Jahres”. One year later, Pegasus Spiele won the prize in cooperation with developer eggertspiele and is the current “Kennerspiel des Jahres” awardee.
