- The Hotel&Design Award in the hotel and restaurant trade in Austria was presented for the first time this year on the occasion of the tradeshow HOTEL&GAST in Vienna, and thus it is the first and so far only design prize. As a result, all of the participants were enthusiastic - and the winners were the most thrilled with the special award.
The criteria for the award were the degree of innovation, functionality, formal quality, longevity, self-declarative quality, and ecological compatibility. HOTEL&DESIGN, one of the the leading design magazines for the hotel and restaurant trade in Austria, presented the H&D Award for the first time on the occasion of the HOTEL&GAST tradeshow in Vienna. It covers the decision-makers of the entire three-star to five-star hotel trade as well as the top restaurant industry and selected architects from the sector throughout the entire country. "With the announcement of creation of the H&D Award at the beginning of this year, we immediately felt this addressed us and that we were in the best hands," said Valentina Unterhofer from the PR & Communications Department of SELVA Hospitality. "After all, the magazine reaches our core target group and the award can be a valuable guideline for future furnishing and design decisions with the new construction and renovation of hotel rooms." And on the occasion of the awarding of the prize, HOTEL&DESIGN publisher and editor-in-chief Peter A. de Cillia added, "The H&D award is to represent a prize for high product and design quality, functionality, and sustainability. Those whom we invited to apply were manufacturers throughout the world whose products are obtainable on the free market."
Winner in the category of furnishing:
Fantastically Regal - The SELVA Collection Vendôme
Vendôme is on one hand a small city in France, and on the other hand, the Place Vendôme is one of the five "royal squares" of Paris. And thus the name itself already vouches for pure temptation and joie de vivre. The bed is already splendidly royal, and the colour combinations are nobly elegant. The sofas and armchairs, ottomans and seats, consoles, sideboards, and (night) tables as well as the accessories and decorative elements carry one away into a unique world of space. The easygoing, practically cocky combination of materials is striking, leading to the temptation to touch. Top-quality wool rugs in combination with velour slip covers, fine bed linens, and no end of pillows form the perfect invitation to a moment of dreaming: to just let oneself plop down and enjoy like a king.
The H&D Award Jury was Unanimous
Prizes were awarded to winners in a total of nine categories on April 8 during the HOTEL&GAST tradeshow in Vienna by a four-member jury. The experts of the jury were Michaela Reitterer, proprietor of the Hotel Stadthalle in Vienna and president of the ÖHV; Manfred Stallmajer, hotel director of The GuestHouse in Vienna; architect Christian Heiss, Atelier Heiss; and Peter A. de Cillia, publisher and editor-in-chief of HOTEL&DESIGN. Together, they confirmed that all submissions could be viewed and that every single one of them had the potential to be a winner in every respect. But, as the line so nicely goes, "And the Oscar goes to..." or "And the Desi goes to..." SELVA, winner in the category of furnishing! The statuettes for the winners were designed by artist Daniela Wolfsberg, who explained, "The figure symbolizes life in all of its intensity, the individual categories are symbolically provided in the form of small editions of the figure. I have called my statue 'Desi', derived from the word 'design.'"
