For women who often sunbathe indoor or outdoor, the risk of thrombosis is reduced by 30%, compared to women who avoid sunbathing or solariums to a great extent. A study by Swedish researchers, which has now been published in 'Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis' came to this conclusion. "In their final conclusion the research group assumes that the higher UVB radiation rate linked with sunbathing improves the level of vitamin D in the human body, which in turn leads to a strengthening of the characteristics of the blood which inhibit clotting", explains Ad Brand, the spokesperson of the Sunlight Research Forums (SRF). "In the study", continued Brand "the Swedish researchers additionally determined that the thrombosis risk is up to 50% higher in winter than during other seasons."
