In the north, for example, your starting point could be the campsite “Kalte Quelle”, which is located directly on the river Main. Surrounded by meadows and agricultural land, the wonderful view of the vineyards will put you in the holiday spirits in an instant. Guests travelling with their own boat will be able to enjoy the slipway and the jetty for mooring.
Being the home of the Erwin Hymer Group’s headquarters, Wertheim has long been closely linked to the caravanning lifestyle. All year round, the Erwin Hymer World offers 90 free parking spaces for motorhomes and caravans, which you can use for just a stopover or to spend a few days.
In the immediate vicinity of the medieval town of Rothenburg, there are no less than two campsites which are just as enchanting as their names suggest: “Tauberromantik” and “Tauber-Idyll”. The “Camping Tauberromantik” stands out with a large, well-kept tree population in quiet surroundings, space for 120 motorhomes, caravans, and tents, a self-service shop, as well as additional furnished dormitories and apartments.
At the “Tauber-Idyll” campsite, the managers Sven Kotterba-Konrädi and Nicolas Kotterba provide their guests with hot and cold drinks as well as daily necessities. Situated at the heart of the protected landscape of the Tauber Valley, the site certainly lives up to its name.
A few kilometres further south, the “Frankenhöhe” campsite in Schillingsfürst invites you to pitch your tents. The facilities range from a restaurant with a lounge to a billiard table, table football, a boules court, and a sauna, which certainly help make a rainy day more interesting.
The “DCC-Campingpark Romantische Straße” in Dinkelsbühl, the campsites “Lech-Camping”, and “Ludwigshof am See” — both in Affing-Mühlhausen near Augsburg —, as well as “Terrassen-Camping Am Richterbichl” in Rottenbuch all have their own bathing lakes. As a special feature, the latter also boasts accommodation in barrels, which are the preferred choice of guests on pilgrimages. Very near the southernmost end of the Romantic Road, the award-winning site “Campingplatz Brunnen” with its own spa facilities offers a five-star camping holiday.
