Summer refreshment - 5 cool spots along the Romantic Road for hot days

As the temperatures continue to rise, people are flocking to the cool rather than the hot spots. We introduce you to the five most refreshing spots along the Romantic Road, where you can cool down while enjoying the popular holiday route:

1. “Dallenbergbad” in Würzburg

Right at the northern starting point of the Romantic Road, which leads from the river Main to the Alps, the “Dallenbergbad” pool invites you to enjoy a swim. The complex is situated within a spacious park landscape and is considered to be one of Germany’s most beautiful open-air swimming pools. The conditions are ideal for a refreshing cool down. Swimmers can do lengths in the 50-metre long sports pool. Water lovers will be delighted by the renovated ten-metre high diving platform with its own diving pool. And all those who like splashing around in the cool water will find the beginners’ pool to be a true oasis, with a wide water slide and play equipment. The giant slide also guarantees a lot of fun. A large sunbathing lawn with a grandstand and beach volleyball court are the icing on the cake at the “Dallenbergbad” in Würzburg.

1. Boat or kayak tour in the holiday region around Wertheim

In Wertheim, on the confluence of the rivers Tauber and Main, you can explore the surrounding area from the water. In Kreuzwertheim, for example, you can hire canoes and kayaks including all the necessary

safety equipment from “Paddle & Boat”. Hires range for one to several days. On request, the rental company takes the boats to and from the water for you. When canoeing on the Main, you can take advantage of the river's leisurely flow speed of three to six kilometres per hour. On average, the locks are ten to twelve river kilometres apart and can be operated by a single person unaided.

1. “Wörnitz-Strandbad” in Dinkelsbühl

The source of the river Wörnitz, also known as the “snake river” due to its countless loops, is in Schillingsfürst within the “Frankenhöhe” natural park. A little further south along the Romantic Road, in Dinkelsbühl, its water is still so clean that the “Wörnitz-Strandbad” lido offers a perfect place to indulge in a swim in the river. It is one of the last places in Bavaria with a designated river pool and also offers a beautiful view of the old town of Dinkelsbühl. Jumping into the water from atop the floating aqua trampoline is twice as much fun. For those who want to chill, there is a large sunbathing lawn to relax on. Guests can get active with a round of volleyball or boccia and practice their climbing skills in the “Klettergarten”. Children can enjoy the football field and mud playground.

1. The “Inselbad” outdoor swimming pool in Landsberg am Lech

The first warm rays of sunshine bring life back to the “Inselbad” on the river Lech and the water party continues right until the end of the summer holidays. The “Inselbad” has been in existence for 48 years and is proud to have the world’s best-maintained wave system, which makes swimmers feel as if they are in the sea. Among the other attractions at the “Inselbad” are a 50-metre long sports pool, a water slide, a diving platform, a children's bathing area, and sunbathing facilities. You can even try aqua jogging if you fancy.

1. The “Pöllatschlucht” gorge in Schwangau

Experience the force of the water and its refreshing spray in the “Pöllatschlucht” gorge in Schwangau. Following a rock fall, this natural phenomenon underneath Neuschwanstein Castle was closed to visitors

for five years. The gorge was reopened again in May following extensive renovation work and offers probably the most romantic and coolest way to the castle.
