The official opening ceremony is taking place on 2nd December.
And it will not be long either until another new highlight is opening its doors high above the roofs of Zell am See and Kaprun: from mid-December Peakworld 3000 will be open to the public. Right now it still is the highest situated construction site in the province of Salzburg. After its opening, it will then provide insight into the fascinating environment of the Alps. At the Cinema 3000, visitors can watch documentaries on the glacier and its evolution. In the so-called National Park Gallery - a 360-metre-long gallery leading to a panorama platform - there are five exciting information areas on topics like the treasures of the Hohe Tauern mountain range and its evolution.
Until January, the glacier of Kitzsteinhorn will be the construction site of the Volvo Ice Camp, too. Then, guests can spend a day or even a night at the igloos made of ice and snow at an altitude of 2,500 metres above sea level. In addition, the glacier is the place where the routes of 'Freeride XXL' start. As long as the weather cooperates, passionate freeriders can grab the unique opportunity to ride across pristine blankets of snow. Several workshops make sure that all participants know the right technique and how to use their safety equipment.
On Schmittenhöhe, winter sports athletes are awaited by 77 kilometres of perfectly white ski runs. Thanks to state-of-the-art snow cannon systems and a recently installed reservoir with a capacity of 174.000 cubic metres, perfect conditions and unalloyed fun on the slopes can be taken for granted! Besides Rome Park Schmitten - a must-go for freeskiers and snowboaders - the skimovie run at the mountain station of Hochmaisbahn cable car is a true crowd-puller as well. Here, athletes are filmed by two cameras. Afterwards they can watch and download their video and even send it to friends all around the globe.
