For the five musicians from the isle the snow conditions are of secondary importance. On 2nd April, they are rocking the stage in Schüttdorf, which is part of Zell am See. For dyed-in-the-wool fans and anyone else who doesn't want to miss the concert, the entrance is free. This also holds true for any other event of the'Sun, Snow & Party Week'. For Franz Klammer, on the other hand, the pristine white snow on the local mountains is of major importance, since he and his team of former and today's stars from the Austrian winter sports scene are testing the latest skiing models for the season of 2008/2009.
For the 'World Skitest', Klammer and his team have chosen the pistes of Schmittenhöhe. With its 2,000 metres of altitude, the mountain offers the ultimate conditions for putting the new products to the acid test - even as late as in March. The pistes of the local mountain of Zell are the venue, too, for the popular'Splash Contest': The participants can be sure to get wet and have a blast when, on 6th April, they are gathering speed on a ski jump made of snow before gliding across the water in a huge artificial pool on their skis or boards. Here, the best of the cold and the hot season join hands!
In May, when holidaymakers elsewhere are enjoying their time at the lidos, Zell am See and Kaprun are proud to offer their guests an exciting alternative besides holidays in swimming wear. On the glacier of 3,200-metre-high Kitzsteinhorn the traditional 'Firn & Fun Happening' is kicking off at the beginning of May. In the perpetual ice on the local mountain of Kaprun, skiers and snowboarders can enjoy cool live music, culinary delights, and last but not least the ever-white ground!
The longing for snow under your feet has not been satisfied yet?Don't worry: by the middle of May there is another event coming up which combines two entirely different sports. If you hope to win the 'Ski & Golf Championship', you have to have a steady hand and a good sense of balance. The participants will go from the downhill slopes straight to the two 18-hole championship golf courses of the region. This event promises to be a real highlight, not only for the participants!
And even by the end of this extraordinary championship, fun in the snow is not over - nowhere near! After all, the pistes of Kaprun's Kitzsteinhorn are open all through the summer months - until the next winter season starts...
